The Story of the Name

It takes its name from Syceus in Greek mythology. Pursued by Zeus, Syceus sought refuge under the protection of his mother, Gaia; according to the narrative, Gaia caused a fig tree to sprout for him. The fig-themed character of the threshing floor alludes to this ancient story between Syceus and Gaia.
