Orange Pekoe

Orange Pekoe is a traditional grading term that indicates the shape and grade of the processed leaf, not the origin or aroma of black tea. Its whole-leaf structure gives it a full, robust, and balanced character in the cup.

The first sip reveals dark notes reminiscent of malt and roasted grains. This is followed by a distinct body and controlled bitterness. It leaves a clean, long, and satisfying finish with the classic character of black tea.

The Story of the Name

“Orange Pekoe” does not refer to an orange flavor or the region where the tea is grown. It is a traditional leaf grade used in the black tea trade; therefore, the tea does not contain orange or any other flavor.

Aroma: Malt, roasted grains, and slightly dry woody nuances.
Palate: Full-bodied and robust; balanced bitterness, dark and distinct.
Finish: Clean, long, and hot.

Caffeine Content

This is classified as a high-caffeine tea on our site. The caffeine content can vary depending on the amount of leaves used, the water temperature, and the brewing time; the Orange Pekoe leaf grade alone does not indicate the exact caffeine content.

How to Drink It?

• Plain: Its malty, full-bodied, and balanced bitterness is most clearly felt.

• With milk or sugar: Its robust body can support milk; milk softens the bitterness and gives the tea a creamier texture.

• As a cold brew: It retains its malty character while softening its bitterness; offering a cleaner and more refreshing drink.

• With food: It pairs well with buttered toast, egg breakfasts, aged cheeses, croissants, plain cakes, cookies, and dark chocolate desserts.

Suggested Preparation Method

For hot brewing, steep 4–6 g of tea in 200 ml of water at approximately 100°C for 3–5 minutes.

For cold brewing, add 20–25 g of tea to 1 liter of water at approximately 24°C, let it steep in the refrigerator for 24 hours, and then strain.
