Hacienda Dos Lagunas – Costa Rica 80% Dark Chocolate

Hacienda Dos Lagunas is a dark chocolate made solely from cocoa beans and sugar, with an 80% cocoa content. No emulsifiers, added cocoa butter, vanillin, or flavorings have been used to alter the natural character of the cocoa.

Initially, a full-bodied yet moderate cocoa character is felt. Then, a creamy undertone reminiscent of white chocolate and almond nuances become apparent. Instead of a sharp bitterness in the finish, a soft and appetizing character, approaching a slight umami flavor, remains.

The terms "white chocolate" and "almond" describe the natural aromatic notes of Hacienda Dos Lagunas cocoa beans, not the product's ingredients. The chocolate contains no dairy products or almonds.

To better appreciate the flavor notes, we recommend consuming it at room temperature, in small pieces, and without rushing.

Hacienda Dos Lagunas is located in Los Llanos de Bonilla, near Siquirres, in the Limón province on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast. Named after the two volcanic lagoons surrounding it, the farm was founded in 1942 by Jorge Rossi Chavarría and is now managed by the third generation of the family.

Out of a total area of 400 hectares, only 40 hectares are used for cocoa cultivation. Approximately 260 hectares are dedicated to the conservation of forests, wetlands, water resources, and biodiversity corridors. Cocoa trees are grown alongside various other plant species within a regenerative agroforestry system inspired by the region's natural forest structure.

Most of the biological inputs used on the farm are prepared on-site. The aim is not only to produce high-quality cocoa; it is also to strengthen the soil, the water cycle, and the biodiversity of the region through production.

Hacienda Dos Lagunas cocoa has been ranked among the top 50 highest-rated cocoas in the world in the 2025 Cacao of Excellence evaluation and awarded a bronze medal.
